It's always walking a fine line between losing mass and how "perfect" you want the stone to be before polishing. The more perfect you want, the smaller they will get. Sometimes you just got to call them ready if you don't want them too small.
Still working on the urge for perfection! This is a batch of Mozambique agate I just finished (with a little India dark amethyst thrown in on the side). They took a nice polish but perfect they aren't. Most have pits or blemishes of one kind or another. 6 weeks in course grit and about 10 weeks total. I just got impatient tumbling them!
What is the longest time you've spent in course to get to blemish-free rocks?
